Shoshone with be the “capital for a day” according to an article in the Idaho Mountain Express. The event will be Wednesday, January 27th. Those who want to know more and have a chance to meet with Governor Otter and members of his cabinet read the details in the Idaho Mountain Express.

Twin Falls FSA Newsletter on “Selling Land”

I just received a newsletter from Twin Falls Farm Service Agency (FSA). It included an article about some issues to be aware when selling farmland that is in a Conservation Program. The article said, “If you are planning to sell farmland, there may be some program consequences you should be aware of. Fore example, if you’re planning to sell land that’s enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program, the buyer must agree to continue the enrollment. If the buyer doesn’t want to continue the CRP contract, you might have to refund all the payments you’ve received to date.

Reviewing program implications with your local Farm Service Agency staff before completing a sale of farmland is always a prudent precaution.”

Gooding Hospital Progress Report

Construction of the North Canyon Medical Center in Gooding, Idaho is 90% complete on on schedule for the February 12, 2010 ribbon cutting and March 2, 2010 opening. Completion of flooring is in progress, with final coat of paint being applied in some areas. Kitchen equipment is in place, and the two reception desks are installed. Exterior construction is substantially complete with the landscaping completed and flag pole to be installed. The residents and medical providers of Gooding County and the surrounding area are anticipating the completion of their new hospital and the enhanced “quality healthcare, close to home” that we be available.

Gooding Elementary School Honored

What an honor for one of our local schools to be the first in the nation to receive this honor: “An official from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will be in Idaho to recognize Gooding Elementary School for efforts to improve the health, nutrition and fitness of students.” Read more…

Election Day

Today has special meaning for me. My son Tecopa is running for City Council in Buhl. We raise our kids and never know what the future for them may be, I must say I am bursting with pride as we wait for the votes to come in. Win or lose the experience for him has been an education that will help him the rest of his life. He voted today in his first election and voted for himself, not many people can say that. Be sure to get out and vote as this is so important to the future of our GREAT county.

Selecting a Home Inspector

When your real estate agent recommends that you get a home inspection and I hope they are recommending one, how to you select a good one? There are several to choose from, but I advise that you interview at least two before choosing who to hire to do your home inspection. Hopefully your agent has suggested at least two home inspectors that they have had good experience with, but the ultimate selection is your choice not your real estate agent’s. I recently found this good blog on oline that proposes some excellent questions for you to ask of the home inspectors that you are considering.

Election Day Dinner

Vehicles and Deer Don’t Mix

I heard a television advertisement one day that stated “that if you decide not to hit a deer you won’t”. At the time I thought that it is really something that you don’t have much control over. As I drove to McCall to visit my dad, the comment returned to my mind. No, I didn’t have a close encounter with a deer or even seen any on the way, but my awareness level was up. I am usually cautious when driving in deer country, but that ad gave me pause. Because of it I was even more vigilant and I drove up the beautiful canyon watching for the slightest movement along the sides of the road. I still believe that a collision with deer cannot always be avoided, but vigilance on the part of the driver could definitely reduce the chances of a collision.
