Hagerman Valley Source of Alligator and Trout for Restaurants

Alligator is a unique meat that is just another product of the Hagerman Valley.  The springs and geothermal water in the Hagerman Valley make it ideal for raising a variety of fish also.  I’ve seen trout from Buhl, Idaho on menus  in our nation’s capital and recently in San Diego.  Sometimes we forget about the by-products of this special this valley, that not many areas can boast.

A recent article in the Idaho Statesman about Sweetwater’s Tropic Zone Restaurant talks about their use of  Hagerman alligator:  “The most fun and unique dish is the alligator chili ($12 lunch and dinner), served with thin-sliced fresh jalapenos, a healthy dollop of sour cream and the option of a fried egg on top. The alligator comes from right here in Idaho – thanks to a geothermal hot spring that gives Hagerman its own tropic zone.”  Read more
